One week to go until the BEA fair

21.04.2023

It’s exactly one week to go until Bern’s biggest social event opens: the BEA. The IFSC Climbing World Championships Bern 2023 will also be on site in the BEActive Zone “Climbing”.

From 28 April to 7 May 2023, the BEA fair will take place on the grounds of BERNEXPO, the Location Partner of the IFSC Climbing World Championships Bern 2023. The BEActive Zone at Bern’s biggest social event is all about climbing to draw attention to the top event in August.

Of course, the IFSC Climbing World Championships Bern 2023 will be present in the theme world “Climbing” to provide information about the World Championships, but there will be much more on offer to further spread the climbing fever in Switzerland. Numerous activities are supposed to encourage both young and old to engage with topics such as the World Championships in particular, but also climbing in general, the environment, sustainability and inclusion in an entertaining way.

The theme world “Climbing” in the outdoor area features four climbing walls: a speed wall, the “Elephant” climbing wall, a bouldering block in the shape of the World Championship logo and a “bouncy castle” climbing wall. Through these walls, you can test your climbing skills in all disciplines – and if you also want to have an insight into climbing with disabilities, our cooperation with PluSport helps with that. Various awareness-raising activities will bring the topic of inclusion closer to the visitors of the fair.

The Swiss Alpine Club will also be present at the “Swiss Alpine Club SAC/IFSC Climbing World Championships Bern 2023” stand to provide information about their activities. The focus will be on the topics of the environment, huts and sustainable climbing. A game about animal tracks is intended to introduce children in particular to the topic of the environment.

During the BEA fair, the mascot of the IFSC Climbing World Championships Bern 2023 will also be presented live to the public for the first time. The chamois is still looking for a name, however, and until 7 May at 12 noon CEST, it can be voted for on the SAC website – the names to choose from are Charmy, Berni and Rocky. Tickets for the World Championships will be raffled among all participants. The mascot will then be officially named at the SAC/World Championships stand on 7 May at 2 pm.

The BEA fair will also provide thrilling competition action. On 29 April 2023, the SAC Swiss Climbing Cup in speed climbing will take place from 9 am to 6 pm.

Migros, the Leading Partner of the IFSC Climbing World Championships Bern 2023, will also provide entertainment through the means of their stacking game. Here, oversized Migros products have to be stacked as high as possible within a certain time. By participating, you can win Migros shopping vouchers.

Supporter of the IFSC Climbing World Championships Bern 2023 Edelrid also contributes to the entertainment part and at the same time educates about upcycling and responsible behaviour. At the BEA, you will be able to make key chains out of old rope scraps.
