12.08.2023

Yesterday at the Boulder & Lead Finals in Bern, Olympic champion Janja Garnbret of Slovenia showcased her brilliance by securing her place in the Paris 2024 Olympics and clinching another world title.

Garnbret’s Stellar Performance

Starting strong in the Boulder round, Garnbret then proceeded to give a stellar Lead performance, adding another gold medal to her already notable collection. Expressing her elation, Garnbret shared, “It feels so amazing today…you don’t get tired of this feeling of qualifying for an Olympics. So, my second Olympics – here we go.”

Pilz and Mori Secure Their Olympic Spots

Austria’s Jessica Pilz was the first among the competitors to lock in her Olympic qualification. Even with the pressure, Pilz managed to secure a silver medal, stating, “It still feels surreal” upon realizing she had made the cut.

Japan’s Mori Ai, despite a shaky start in the Boulder round, managed a top score in Lead, clinching the bronze medal and the last women’s ticket for Paris 2024. Mori surpassed USA’s Brooke Raboutou’s score of 137.8 with her final score of 140.6 points. A thrilled Mori commented, “Getting the Olympic ticket makes me very happy.”

A tense moment ensued when Raboutou could only watch as Mori ascended the wall, surpassing her set score and stealing the Olympic berth.

The Final Standings

Beyond the top contenders, the championships saw South Korea’s Kim Jain finishing fifth, followed by France’s Oriane Bertone, Japan’s Nonaka Miho, and USA’s Anastasia Sanders.
