100 days to go until World Championships 2023

23.04.2023

In exactly 100 days, the international climbing elite will gather in the Switzerland's capital Bern to crown their new world champions. While climbing fans worldwide eagerly wait for the top sporting event to begin, the preparations are well underway.

It is exactly 100 days to go until the IFSC Climbing World Championships Bern 2023 will begin. During 12 days – from 1 to 12 August 2023 – around 800 athletes from 60 nations will compete in the PostFinance Arena and the Curlinghalle Bern in the disciplines Boulder, Lead, Speed and Boulder & Lead. In the midst of all this, the World Championships in paraclimbing, climbing for people with disabilities, will also be organised. In addition to the World Championship spectacle, with more than 55,000 spectators to be expected, and an extensive programme in the “Village of Experiences” in front of the arena, climbing fans look forward to a special sporting highlight: the awarding of the first starting places for the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris. Therefore, the stakes are high and nail-biting competitions are guaranteed, as the athletes will give their best to present themselves in top form!

However, a few more weeks will pass until then – a waiting time that the organisers of the World Championships will sweeten with a treat or two.

“Climbing” theme world at the BEA fair

From 28 April to 7 May 2023, the BEA fair will be held on the grounds of BERNEXPO, the Location Partner of the IFSC Climbing World Championships Bern 2023. The BEActive Zone at Bern’s biggest social event is all about climbing. The IFSC Climbing World Championships Bern 2023 will be present in the “Climbing” theme world to provide information about the top event in August. In addition, four climbing walls invite young and old to get active themselves. The Swiss Alpine Club SAC, PluSport and various partners of the IFSC Climbing World Championships Bern 2023 will also be on site to provide information in an entertaining way about important topics such as sustainability and inclusion. Finally, the World Championship mascot will be named on 7 May at 2 pm at the stand of the IFSC Climbing World Championships Bern 2023. The naming competition will run until 12 noon on the same day.

Over the next few months, the IFSC Climbing World Championships Bern 2023 will be present at various events to draw attention to the sporting event. At the same time, side events will also be organised, such as the Migros Climbing Days (2-3.6. at Centre Brügg, 30.6.-1.7. at Shoppyland Bern, 7-8.7. at Panorama-Center Thun) or the Badi-Tour (in June/July at Bern’s outdoor pools). One thing is for sure: the hot phase of the promotion has begun!

World Championship tram on the road in Bern

Since 16 April 2023, a spring-fresh, colourful tram has been on the BernMobil rail network: the tram for the IFSC Climbing World Championships Bern 2023. Until the start of the World Championships, it will be on the entire Bern network – during the World Championships, it will run exclusively on line 9 directly to the “Guisanplatz Expo” stop, very close to the PostFinance Arena and the curling hall. In keeping with the sustainability concept of the World Championship, the venues on the site of the Location Partner BERNEXPO can be easily reached by public transport.
